28 November 2007 Yesterday's tournament had several interesting battles. First, there was the battle for the day prize, won convincingly by Anil. Mr Consistent, who had been scoring average scores near 21.00 in tournament after tournament, suddenly found his way. He scored so many points in his first three games (winning by 21- 8, 21-12, and 21-7) that he could lose his last two games narrowly and still walk away as winner. Rob Hughes won four games, but only finished in second place. Neil even won all his games, but most of his wins were 21-18 or 21-19, so he finished in third place, which he shared with debutant Ingrid. Then there was the battle between Gabriele and Guillem. They had to play each other five times. Gab won four times, but the one game he lost was a whopping 21-7, equalling the biggest loss in the history of the tournament. So overall Gab won his battle against Guillem with a relatively modest 22-20 average score. Anil was not expected to play a role in the battle at the top of the overall standing, because he was only in 15th place after the first two tournaments. But he did manage to dethrone Guillem. His average score for the season is now a massive one-hundredth of a point higher than that of Guillem. Neil, Robert, Rob H. and Gabriele also find themselves up a few places in the ranking after yesterday. And then there was the battle for last place in the overall standing. At the start of the tournament there were four main candidates: Rob, Marc, Gabriele, and Simon. Rob and Gabriele did do well enough to move up the table into safety. Marc and Simon had better tournaments than in the last two months, but are still lingering at the bottom, with Marc still a slightly better lingerer than Simon. The battle of the girls was won by Ingrid, with almost no difference between Kerstin, Julia, and Deirdre. In the overall standing, Deirdre remains ahead of Julia. Ingrid has not yet played enough games to qualify for this table. Panayotis once again outplayed his father completely, but the fact that Pantelis was prevented from playing at all by a severe cold may have had something to do with that.
