Ipswich Hawks made it a League and Cup double by beating Newmarket 3-0 in the Suffolk Cup Final. Ipswich Sharks were unlucky in losing 3-1 to Stow Stormers in the Plate final

Plate Final: Stow Stormers 3 - 1 Ipswich Sharks (25-23, 25-22, 26-28, 25-22) Cup Final: Newmarket 0 - 3 Ipswich Hawks (13-25, 16-25, 24-26)

The Suffolk Volleyball Association Finals day, sponsored by Wilkinson Stores, was held at Maidenhall Sports Centre on Sunday. It was the end of a great season for Suffolk Volleyball with two mens teams competing in the National League Div 3 East, Ipswich finishing second and Stowmarket holding their own in the first season back in National League for a number of years. In the Suffolk League the Division One title was regained by Ipswich Hawks and they were out to complete the double by regaining the cup from last seasons winners Newmarket. ACE won the division two title to gain promotion to division one next season. The Plate and Cup competitions are run on a handicap system on previous seasons final league positions. In the Plate final Stow Stormers and Ipswich Sharks started level as both had a 0 handicap. It proved a close affair with the youngsters from Stowmarket winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22, but the Sharks made a comeback winning the third set 28-26. Powerful hitting from Stowmarket tested the Sharks digging to breaking point, and with the heat in the sports hall also taking it's toll on the Ipswich players the Stormers took the fourth set 25-22. The Cup final was an eagerly awaited affair, after two cracking league matches between these two teams. Ipswich Hawks had just six players but it was probably their National League starting six, to compound this Newmarket had to give a 2 point advantage to the Hawks in each set. Great hitting from Watson and Corliano and blocking through the middle by Miller and Koch forced Newmarket on the back foot and Ipswich won the 1st set at a canter 25-13. Elliston and "Rigsby" Rossiter were also causing havoc in the Newmarket back line and the second set went to Ipswich in quick fashion 25-16. At 8-1 up in the third set Ipswich seemed to have the match sewn up, but a Newmarket comeback led by Matt Read who was hitting through and off the Ipswich block saw the scores close. Clever play from Corliano looked to have set Ipswich up for the win but again Newmarket came back to level the set at 22-22. However two serve errors by Newmarket handed the Hawks the set 26-24 and a league and cup double. After the matches the presentations of the trophies were made by Andy Rudge of Wilkinson Stores, these included awards to the most valuable players of Division one (Guillem Hernandez - Orwell) and Division two (Marta Mozdzen - Ipswich Sharks).
